Lifting of COVID-19 Restrictions: 'We Need To Take More Precaution Than Ever' - Nana Ofori Owusu

PPP National Chairman, Nana Ofori Owusu, has welcomed the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his 28th update on the pandemic disease but is however calling for much caution to be taken in the wake of this decision.

The President, on Sunday, March 27, declared that "from tomorrow, Monday, 28th March. the wearing of face masks is no longer mandatory. I encourage all of you though to continue to maintain enhanced hand hygiene practices and avoid overcrowded gatherings."

"From tomorrow, Monday, 28th March, fully vaccinated travellers into Ghana will no take PCR tests from the country of embarkation to allow them entry into the country through the KIA, and will not be tested on arrival. Citizens and foreign residents in Ghana, who are not fully vaccinated, would, however, need to provide a negative PCR test result of not more than 48-hours, will undergo an antigen test upon arrival at KIA, and will be offered vaccination there,” he added.

The President further said; "All in-person activities, such as those that take place in churches, mosques, conferences, workshops, private parties and events, cinemas and theatres May resume at full capacity, as long as the audience and/or participants are fully vaccinated. Hand washing and hand sanitizing points should be made available at these venues. Outdoor functions at sporting events, entertainment spots, political rallies and funerals may resume at full capacity, again, as long as all persons at these events are fully vaccinated.”

On the closure of borders, the President also directed that "from tomorrow, Monday the 28th March, all land and sea borders will be opened. Fully vaccinated travelers will be allowed entry through the land and sea borders without a negative PCR test from their country of origin".

Reacting to the President's address, Nana Ofori Owusu admonished Ghanaians to continue observing the COVID-19 safety protocols, stressing the need for precautions.

In his response during Peace FM's morning show ''Kokrokoo'', the PPP National Chairman said; " . . yes, out of necessity, we have to open our borders. Out of necessity, we have to travel and so forth. Out of necessity, we should move but we must move on cautiously . . .The opening of the borders is a good thing. We need to take precaution and we need to take more precaution than ever."
