I Congratulate Parliament For Passing E-Levy - Allotey Jacobs

Former Central Regional Chairman of the laregst opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has congratulated the Akufo-Addo government for passing the E-Levy Bill.

The Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) was approved by Parliament on Tuesday, March 29 following a walkout by the Minority from the House.

The policy aimed at charging Ghanaians a 1.5% deduction on all electronic transactions was vehemently opposed by the Minority but has survived the opposition, hence awaiting President's assent for it to be implemented.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Allotey Jacobs deemed the E-Levy as a covenant between the government and the citizenry to develop the country.

He was happy it is coming into force stressing it will help to widen the tax net.

"For me, it's a good news. The good news is that, now, every Ghanaian will be enrobed into the tax net, because those of us paying the tax are suffering. So, anything the government wants to do, if there are tax increases, it affects only a few but our demand for infrastructural development, our demand for education, our demand for health. . . I congratulate Parliament for passing the E-Levy . . . For me, I'm happy . . . it's like a covenant between the NPP government and the people of Ghana," he said.
