Minority Leadership 'Destroying' NDC In Parliament - Ras Mubarak 'Fires'

A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak, has accused the leadership of the Minority in Parliament of sabotaging the party’s agenda in the House.

He was blunt that he is not happy with the leadership modus operandi-hence, an issue the NDC top hierarchy must address.

“They [Minority leadership] are destroying our party,” he claimed on NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie'.

Ras Mubarak was commenting on Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin's referral of three New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs – Dome/Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo; Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong and Ayawaso Central MP, Henry Quartey – to the Privileges Committee(PC) of the House for absenting themselves for more than 15 consecutive sittings.

He backed the Speaker’s move after his petition but expressed shock from Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka who has filed a motion challenging the move.

According to Muntaka, who is also the Minority Chief Whip - it is only an MP who can start a procedure to remove a sitting MP per the rules.

He has filed a motion to challenge the Speaker’s referral of the MPs to the Privileges Committee.

But Ras Mubarak has questioned Muntaka’s ‘needless defence’.

“Why is he crying more than the bereaved?” he questioned – adding that “If they [Minority Leader and Chie Whip] want not to know, none of their back benchers’ support what they are doing.”

He continued “This is politics, not religion so they should act like politicians. We want power and what they’re doing will not win us power.”
