"There's No Order In Parliament" - Dr. Benjamin Otchere Ankrah

Governance Lecturer at the Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere Ankrah, has slammed the 8th Parliament of Ghana over recent happenings in the House.

It could be recalled that the 8th Parliament was recently turned into a boxing arena by the members of the August House during sittings on the government's 2022 budget.

The Minority and Majority violently clashed in the chamber, trading blows in an attempt to approve or diapprove the budget with particular regard to the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) stated in the 2022 budget.

Also there are some MPs who have been referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament for being truant in the House.

The MPs namely; Henry Quartey, Adwoa Safo and Kennedy Agyapong are all to appear before the Committee to explain why they have been absent for more than 15 days which is against the standing orders of Parliament.

Speaking in a panel discussion on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Dr. Benjamin Otchere Ankrah called for order in Parliament because, to him, ''there's no order in Parliament''.

He wondered why an MP would absent himself/herself without first seeking permission, hence asking ''how long will it take one to seek permission to be absent?''

The Governance Lecturer also asked the Speaker not to only refer these MPs to the Committee but do same to any MP who misbehaves in the chamber and outside Parliament, especially when they go on the airwaves insulting.

"Let's not be selective, Mr. Speaker," he said.

He advised the MPs to respect the honorable House stressing, "they should do their job well or else the future generation will not forgive him".
