We've Saved Ghana a Whopping GHc 112 Million - Dr. Bawumia Discloses

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has highlighted some benefits of government's digitization initiative to the economic transformation of Ghana.

Addresssing the youth of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) at their National Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) Training and Orientation Conference on Thursday, April 7, 2022, the Vice President noted that, with the introduction of Ghana card, Ghanaians don't have to worry about having SSNIT, NHIS numbers as well as the Tax Identification Number (TIN).

He stated that the Ghana card has replaced their TIN, SSNIT and NHIS numbers.

"Today, your SSNIT number is your Ghana card number. Your NHIS number is your Ghana card...SSNIT and NHIA are no longer printing their own cards. The Ghana card is enough for them. They will not print and they are saving a lot of money. We are saving a lot of money and they still don't understand the link between digitalization and the economy," he said.

He further indicated that the government also undertook a biometric audit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) payroll and found out that there are lots of ''ghost workers'' on payroll.

Hence, digitizing the scheme has ensured that no ghost workers will be on payroll any longer.

Dr. Bawumia also revealed that the government has, through her digitization of the NSS, saved Ghana a whopping GHC 112 million.

"The integration of databases is allowing us to sucessfully weed out ghost workers on payroll. A biometric audit of the National Service Scheme payroll alone, just National Service, when audited the payroll; we found 14027 ghost workers on the National Service and we have saved government GHC 112 million . . . just one audit, we've saved government GHC 112 million.''
