Behold, The Era Of Political Acronyms And Slogan

In case you enter your bedroom and should spot a troublesome civilian mosquito without any military titles hovering around, the natural inclination would be to kill it immediately. There are two methods you can use to kill that unwelcome mosquito. In the first place, you can eat two big balls of kenkey supported by four fingers plucked from a crab while you wash the combination down with two sachets of pure water to give you the necessary strength to do battle with the mosquito. The weapon available would be your two palms. You might have to try about three times before you can kill the mosquito. The dead mosquito will stick to one of your palms with the tiny blood in its body as exhibit. This method of killing the mosquito might not be considered too effective but it will certainly be economical and perhaps efficient, considering the cost of the kenkey, the crab and the water. A second option would be to go to the Burma Camp, get a Lieutenant-General to come down with an AK 47 machine gun and shoot down the mosquito. In the process, the body of the dead mosquito cannot be traced while a gaping hole is likely to appear in your wall caused by the massive explosive bullet from the AK 47. While this method can be considered very effective, it is certainly neither economical nor efficient considering the salary of a Lieutenant-General, the cost of the bullet and the depreciation of the AK 47. How do you use a sledge hammer to kill a fly? Only the mind of a sadist who takes joy in human suffering can contemplate such an act. The ongoing battle for the soul, the mind and the body of the NDC has provided a great opportunity for the people of this country and the world at large to observe at close quarters the true satanic character of the NDC and the devilish mindset of the partys apparatchik. The confessions and accusations coming from the two opposing factions of the party battling for the partys presidential flag-bearership against each other speaks volumes of the blood-sucking antics which has been the stock in trade of the party since its formation. How could the people of this country live and survive under such uncanny, creeping and eerie atmosphere created by the NDC party for so long without something breaking can only be attributed to the ever Merciful and Gracious Allah. How can people with their faculties assumed to be still located at the original place the good God placed them continue to take pride in belonging to such an organization is a marvel and mind-boggling. There has never been a time in the short history of the Fourth Republic than now when the services of all our true Men of God would be needed during this period between now and the 2012 elections. Suddenly, the people into whose hands we have entrusted the destiny of this country are not only turning themselves into replicas of Agya Koo, the latest comedian in town, but also performing dangerous war games like the armed gladiators of old who existed in ancient Rome. Agya Koo has brought more joy to many homes while creating more controversies than any other comedian this country has produced in recent times. While, through his films, he has undoubtedly succeeded in creating hilarious souls out of grieving ones with his very often provocative antics and caustic insults, he has also succeeded in stepping on the toes of some powerful groups and individuals who do not see the funny side of the behavior as depicted in his films. At one time, some Muslim groups, who take great exception to any contrary views to their own interpretation of the Holy Quran, rose in arms against Agya Koo and the producer of a film which sort to depict with ignorance some aspects of Muslim religion. But that was chicken feed compared to the great demolish exercise and unnecessary show of strength by state security which followed the announcement to outdoor his latest film, aptly titled Atta the Mortuary Man. Observers of the political scene must be aware that at one time, a film came out titled Ata Ayi, which created no storm at all. Observer of the political scene will note that it was President Rawlings who, consciously and with impunity and in a derogatory manner, referred to President Kufuor as Atta Ayi, that infamous armed robber. It was the same President Rawlings who, without reference to any particular individual, also told the true story of Atta the mortuary man at an NDC congress. I am not too sure whether the producers of the film Atta Ayi were able to break even, let alone make profit. In contrast, I do not need a crystal ball to predict that the film Ata the Mortuary Man, by whatever name it is released, is going to be a box office record breaker once it comes onto the market. All this is due to the illegal, overzealous and overbearing use of state power by persons paid out of state coffers, who always read the riot act upside down and who cannot distinguish between loyalty to the state and loyalty to a political establishment managed by self-seeking corrupt individuals holding temporary positions in trust for the citizens. Some of us were beginning to enjoy the comic aspects of the NDC battle until we heard the confessions and accusations, the counter threat by opposing factions to dig deep into the archives to bring out more damaging historical facts about their opponents, should they cross the red line of decent behavior. The infantile pronouncements and antics could be excused but for the fact that these are persons who are managing our Constitution for us at this critical time. Ours is a government headed by a law professor with doctorate in law and long experience in teaching company law and therefore an expert in corporate governance. He also doubles up as self-confessed born again Christian and the keeper and overlord of peace. Yet, you listen to the pronouncements, the propaganda and the defence put up by his ministers and other political appointees to defend the indefensible instead of offering simple apologies and one will understand why some of us feel very sad, downhearted and the pang of hopelessness every morning as we wake up and become aware of our black skin. History does not mean anything to the blackman. Every succeeding government we have had since independence seems to send the country further down the dark tunnels of abysmal hopelessness. Greed and lies have become the stock in trade while the quest for unbridled political power, with the eye to looting, has taken the centre stage of national politics. In the past, we used to talk about stealing. Now it is plain looting. Stealing meant something was left for the unfortunate victim. In looting, everything is taken away by the armed robber, leaving the victim in a state of stupor. The seat of government has been the epicenter of the corruption industry where the battle for the wealth of this nation is fought. A Regional Minster and a lowly-placed party spokesperson can trade insults on radio stations about the impropriety and unfairness in sharing of lucrative contracts apportioned and allocated right from the seat of government without recourse to the law. The Procurement Act has been thrown to the dustbin. People in government have suddenly fallen in love with the Chinese. They are forming companies with the Chinese and awarding them juicy state contracts without tender. Contracts are awarded on single sourcing in clear violation of the Procurement Act. I shudder to think of the shady deals going on within the oil and gas sector and other key sectors of the economy under this government made up of corrupt, inept, incompetent, vindictive, mediocre, standard seven, enemies, traitors and greedy bastards. These are words coming from a faction of the NDC camp, headed by the Founder of the party, currently describing men and women who were previously considered persons of integrity and honesty who practiced transparency and accountability, when lies had to be told to the citizens for power to be won. State resources are being wasted all in the attempt to win the NDC flag-bearership. In all these political tomfoolery and rascality taking place in an era where a supposedly born again head of state has managed to convince a section of the Christian community to hold monthly interceding praying meetings for the health of the nation, we still have our fun of the numerous political acronyms coming out of the NDC camp with rapid succession. It used to be FONKAR and GAME and now we have SADAM and OLONKA. These translate as follows: FONKA Friends of Nana Agyemang Konadu. In order not to be undone, the Mills camp had a minister of state organizing some unemployed youth to appear on a radio station to proclaim themselves the authentic and original FONKA and denouncing Mrs. Rawlings, a clear exercise in political deception and chicanery which failed miserably. GAME has three meanings depending upon who is speaking. GAME I Get Atta Mills Endorsed. GAME II Get Atta Mills Elected. GAME III Get Atta Mills Ejected. SADAM Sons and Daughters of Atta Mills. OLONKA Original Ladies of Nana Konadu Agyemang. This must have been formed after the Gang of Four women very close to Mrs. Rawlings had defected to the Atta Mills camp. Observers will note that olonka is a container used by the market women as a standard measure of grains. Now NDC has also been given a new meaning: National Demolition Congress, following the dirty battle going on among the family members. I do not have any doubt that many more acronyms will surface or perhaps, more already exist. On this note, it is worth keeping in mind that Nana Addo Danquahs war slogan of All Die Be One Die, which was much maligned by the NDC leadership, was adopted by some disenchanted NDC foot soldiers in Tamale who felt that their party was not doing anything for them. Since then, other political slogans like Be Bold and What Is The Time Spio Gabrahs Time have all surfaced. These could have been very interesting times but for the violent antics, the flood of vituperations and hot and cold which have characterized the battle for the NDC flag-bearership which speak of impending doom come 2012.
