Tanzanian Adhoc Committee On A Benchmarking Visit To Ghana's Parliament

A Tanzanian Parliamentary Adhoc Committee on Salaries, Allowances and Conditions of Service for members and staff of parliament is in Ghana for a two-day benchmarking visit to Ghana's Parliament.

The delegation, made up of four members of the committee and four parliamentary staff, had earlier called on Mr Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament on Thursday.

The delegation would interact and share ideas on emoluments, and conditions of service of members of Parliament.

They are also expected to liaise with the parliamentarians to exchange ideas and learn practices of Ghana's Parliament as well as how Parliament works in Ghana.

"The distinguished delegation for the parliament of Tanzania are here for a benchmarking visit to Ghana's parliament, parliamentary service to learn and share evolving practices to be able to respond to some urgent needs in the country," Mr Bagbin said on the floor of Parliament on Thursday.

He urged the Ghanaian counterparts to engage the delegation in all needed areas necessary by being candid.

"Say it as it is. Do not run away from any issue. Because this is a thorny matter which is eating into the public of democratic culture of Africa and we must confront it as a continent and find solutions," he said.

Mr Bagbin called for the necessary and related learning assistance to the delegation to make their study trip worthwhile.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader, expressed gratitude to the Tanzanian parliament for its continuous support for the welfare of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Majority Leader, lauded Tanzania for keeping the CPA regime afloat by subventing the association over the years as a platform that had deepened bilateral relations between Ghana's Parliament and the CPA fraternity.

The CPA previously known as the Empire Parliamentary Association is an organization which works to support good governance, democracy, and human rights. In 1989 the patron of the CPA was the Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II.
