The Jamaican Consulate in Ghana hosted a reception at the Labadi Beach Hotel, on Wednesday, August 11, 2022, to mark the end of Jamaica’s 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

In a bid to promote bilateral cooperation in key areas including trade, investment, tourism, technical and cultural cooperation, the Jamaican Consulate was established in Ghana last year. The Consulate hopes to provide the highest quality of service to all Jamaican nationals living in or visiting Ghana.

In his speech, Mr. Isaac Emil Osei Bonsu - the Honorary Consul of Jamaica to Ghana, reflected on the special bond between Jamaica and Africa, and Ghana in particular, and  Jamaica’s agenda of having a meaningful presence in Africa.

According to him, that led to the establishment of the Honorary Consulate in Ghana, which he is proud to be its first Honorary Consul.

In his remark on the occasion, His Excellency Esmond St C. Reid, High Commissioner of Jamaica to the Republic of Ghana, articulated the spirit and essence of Jamaica, a people of determination and resilience, pointing to Jamaican athletes as perfect examples.

Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey, Deputy Minister for Tourism of the Republic of Ghana, simply reiterated the commitment of the government of Ghana to maintain goodwill with the government and people of Jamaica: and to collaborate for mutual benefit.

Notable people spotted at the event included Mrs. Elsie Addo Awadzi, 2nd Deputy Governor of the bank of Ghana, Hon. Sam George, Member of Parliament, Ningo Prampram Tourism Man, Abeiku Santana, Bola Ray, among others.

In the nutshell, the Jamaican people are proud of their heritage and the bond they share with the continent of Africa. Jamaicans living in Ghana could not hide their pleasure as they merrier to the euphoria of the evening.

The Jamaican Consulate in Ghana seeks to protect the interests of Jamaica and aid Jamaican nationals both Individuals and corporate entities here in Ghana, guided by municipal law as well as international law.

Foster friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Jamaica and Ghana through the promotion of tourism, trade and investment.

Perform other functions as designated by the Government of Jamaica, including the provision of diplomatic representation at a bilateral or international event.
