Executive Director of the Female Journalists for Women and Rural Development in Africa (FJWoRDA), Mrs. Shirley Asiedu Addo, in partnership with the B4 Foundation, has organized a free health screening, particularly breast cancer examination, for women in Brafoyaw, a community in Abura Asedu Kwamakese district of Central Region.

According to her, the devastating effects of breast cancer continue to wreak havoc in families and the community, "therefore the outreach was organized in a bid to promote awareness about breast cancer and to get women to seek early treatment, if anything is detected in their breasts".

She indicated that, "while the mass media is important in disseminating and creating awareness on pertinent issues affecting the communities, the effects of getting our hands to the plough and reaching to the communities physically can also not be underestimated. We as female journalists want to be part of the change that we want to see”.

FJWORDA organized the exercise for about 150 women at Brafoyaw near Cape Coast.

Mrs. Shirley Asiedu urged women to go for regular medical check-ups to stay in good health.

"Women must understand the need to take care of themselves first before taking care of others," she stressed. 

The Director of B4 Foundation, Madam Ursula Adadzewa Fynn, on her part, pledged the Foundation's commitment to supporting events that will save lives.

She advised the beneficiaries of the health screening exercise to practice personal hygiene and healthy eating habits.

She revealed that breast cancer is killing a lot of women, so called on corporate entities to unite with them to send their outreach programmes to underprivileged areas in the Region and across the country.
