Africa’s Most Successful World Cup Player – A Secret Weapon?

All five of the teams representing Africa are blessed with talented and experienced players. But Ghana might have a player who might define their journey at the World Cup. All over the country, there are diverse views on whether this star should be called.

Asamoah Gyan; is a name that cannot be overlooked when considering African greats and more specifically Ghanaian legends.

Most of his achievements are well known especially being the most capped player for the Black Stars (109 APPEARANCES), most goals for the Black Stars (51 GOALS) and all-time African leading goal scorer at the World Cup (6 GOALS). He also shares the most consecutive tournaments scored at (9) with Black Stars’ group rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal's national team captain.

Many Ghanaians have shared their views on whether ‘baby jet’ should be a part of the now 26-man call-up for the World Cup next month. Some prominent figures in Ghana football and society as a whole have also voiced their opinions.

A lot of people believe he is not done with contributing to the team. Many people argue that his experience added to a rather youthful team will create a blend needed for success. Some others also argue in terms of his prolific goal-scoring attributes which might be needed at some point. Others also feel his presence will be a form of intimidation to opponents.

On the other hand, a group of people also feel giving Asamoah a call-up will be a slot wasted as youthful players ready to showcase their abilities on the biggest stage will have their slot taken away. Many also feel he is not ready for the physicality and pace of the brutal warfare that lies ahead next month.

Jokingly, some people claim he should have converted his 120th-minute penalty against Uruguay in 2010 to earn a call-up.

What do you think?
