This Shows Ghana's Democracy Is Fast-growing - Amansie South DCE On NPP MPs' Demand

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie South District, Clement Opoku Gyamfi says the calls by some NPP Members of Parliament for the head of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is a show of democratic maturity.

Over eighty (80) members of the Majority Caucus have signed a petition to the President to relieve of Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, of their positions.

They have threatened to boycott government business in Parliament should the President fail to honour their request.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the MPs said; “if our request is not responded to positively, we will not be present for the budget hearing, neither will we participate in the debate.”

Eugene Boakye Antwi, the Member of Parliament for Subin MP and a leading member of the proponents for Mr. Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen's dismissal, in an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme also says if the President refuses to "remove Ken, he should add Parliament to the Execuitve and rule Ghana with Ken Ofori-Atta".

Touching on the conduct of the MPs, the Amansie South DCE was happy that there can be a situation where Members of Parliament on the ticket of a ruling party can freely express their minds.

"This shows that our democracy is growing. For a majority group in Parliament, forming government, and if from within the government emerges its Members of Parliament coming out to hold a press conference" against it, then it means "we are indeed practicing democracy," he stated.
