The Gas Challenge Will Bridge the Gap Between Academia and the Industry - Dr. Ben Asante

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Dr. Ben K.D. Asante, has said the Gas Challenge is one of the ways they want to bridge the gap between academia and the industry.

In an interview with Peace FM's Gifty Akoto at the Ghana Gas Quiz Challenge contest, he said the academia is mainly theory and awarded with a degree so he will encourage academic institutions to involve industries in the planning of the curriculum so that students will be able to have a fair idea on the industries, being it the energy sector, agricultural sector or the gas and oil sector.

Dr. Ben K.D. Asante explained that by doing so, it will enable students to fit into any industry they would want to and that is one of the importance of the Ghana Gas Challenge.

The Deputy Minister of Education, John Ntim Fordjour also said that it is through education which involves critical thinking, innovation and problem solving which can put Ghana ahead in these recent times of technology.

Speaking at the Ghana Gas Quiz Challenge contest which was held at the University of Ghana, he explained that the common “chew and pour” in academia will not help the current education System in Ghana but rather, Science, Engineering and Mathematics which is embedded in the STEM policy by the Government will take Ghana to the next level.

According to the Deputy Minister, the competition aids Ghanaians to understand the works of Ghana Gas and know the essence of Natural resources.

John Ntim Fordjour commended Ghana Gas for designing this competition to refine society on the domestic use of gas, the economic opportunities along the gas value chain, health and safety matters related to the use of gas.

The contestants of the University of Ghana (Propane), emerged winners with a 59 score of the Ghana Gas zone contest edition Challenge beating the Ghana Communication Technology University (Methane) scoring 39 and Tamale Technical University (Butane) also with an overall score of 38.

The winner spoke with Peace FM News on their preparations towards the contest and explained that they had to add their final examinations together with project work and had to prepare for the challenge as well.
