Professor Kenneth Attafuah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), has expressed concerns over the bulk of Ghana Cards at the NIA offices across the country.

According to him, there are over 600,000 Ghana Cards which have been printed and sitting in the offices because the recipients have either refused or are challenged to come for them. 

In an interview with host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show Monday morning, the NIA Boss revealed that "the number of cards at our offices all over the country which have been printed but have not been issued to Ghanaians is 642,403 as at last week. Out of this number, a few people may have died and others have traveled".

"There are others we call to receive their cards but they don't come; others also insult our officials when they are called," he added.

He, however, admitted that there are some challenges with distributing the cards to the recipients in the hinterlands, hence appealed to government to provide them with vehicles to support their movement to the remote areas.

Prof. Attafuah called on those who haven't received their cards to go to their offices stressing, "there is also a certain minimum obligation on the citizenry to do a little effort to recieve your card".
