'We Were Never Consulted On Proposed Road & Bridge Tolls' - Roads & Transport Committee Chair Scolds Finance Ministry

The Chairman of the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei has disclosed that the Committee wasn't consulted on the proposed road & bridge tolls by the Ministry of Finance.

There is a report under the caption "Reintroduction of Road Tolls - Amendment of the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provision) Act, 2022, (ACT 1080)" circulating on social media which reveals some proposed rates for the new tolls that the Ministry is prepping to implement.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Kennedy Nyarko Osei shocked the host Kwami Sefa Kayi as he denied knowledge of the proposal but warned the Committee will reject the rates should the Ministry bring it before them.

He expressed his resentment that the Ministry could plan such a thing on the blind side of the Committee.

"We haven't had any consultation. The Committee has had no consultation whether with the Road Ministry or the Finance Ministry. The first place I saw this paper is on social media...I can say it on authority that there hasn't been any consultation with the Committee", he snapped.

He assured the Minister that the Committee "will reject their 1 cedi 50 pesewas proposal by them. We won't accept it".

"I will tell Parliament, my colleagues, that we have to set a good rate that will help us to resolve our problem but this amount of money won't help us," he stressed.
