Bernard Allotey Jacobs has rubbished the probe by the Special Prosecutor into the allegations of bribery against former President John Dramani Mahama. 

John Dramani Mahama is under investigation by the Special Prosecutor’s office over reports that he paid over GHC 14,203, 680 to 355092 delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the party’s recently held primaries. 

The money, which was purposed for the delegates to use for transportation, has been classified as a bribe by the Special Prosecutor.

A statement issued by Mr. Mahama’s campaign team confirmed that they provided the delegates with money for transportation and emphasized it was his way of supporting the party. 

But the Special Prosecutor’s office considers the money to have been given to influence votes in favour of Mr. Mahama, who was competing for the party’s flagbearer position with two others, the former Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu and Dr. Kwabena Duffuor who later withdrew from the race.

But to Bernard Allotey Jacobs, the Special Prosecutor's probe will amount to nothing.

"The OSP probe is really much ado about nothing. It won't amount to anything," he said on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show Wednesday morning.

According to him, giving monies to delegates is a normal practice and questioned how that constitutes corruption.

To him, the financial inducement during elections is a "happy birthday for the delegates".
