Professor Azumah "Zum Zum" Nelson, today marks your 65th birthday, you deserve the biggest and memorable celebration for all the excitements you brought into Ghana,Africa and the world at large.

The Ghana Boxing Authority(GBA) will like to say on this auspicious day that there are many precious things in life but only few are special as you because of your achievements in boxing(in the ring and outside the ring).

The GBA President,Abraham Kotei Neequaye and his board members are wishing you lots of love and happiness on your 65th birthday today 19th July, and want to acknowledge and thank you for the countless adventures, suspense, memories, joy and laughter.

The GBA can vividly remember when you won gold medal in 1978 at the commonwealth games and in 1979 made your debut as a professional boxer.

You started your professional boxing career on a positive note with 13 undefeated fights before you were provided with an eleventh hour platform for a world title shot against Salvador Sanchez on 21st July,1982 at the Madison Square Garden and you lost the bout by a knockout in round 15.

You were applauded by the Promoter and the America boxing fans for your resilience, ring generalship, defense, aggressiveness, punching power, techniques and tactic.

The memories of your first world title can't be forgotten when in 1983 you defeated Hector Cortez for the WBC World featherweight title. However, your defeat in the hands of Panel Whitaker in 1990 kept the GBA and Ghanaians worried and sad but your 4 times fights against Jesse James Leija where the first fight ended in a draw, you lost the refight by a unanimous point decision, won the third fight by technical knockout and then he(Leija) won the fourth and last bout by a unanimous point decision gave us some respite.

One unforgettable record in your career is your mouthwatering fight against Jeff Fenech which started in 1991 with a split draw decision and in 1992 you punished him in his own backyard with a technical knockout.

Your kindness offered him(Feneck)an opportunity in 2008 when you've already hanged your gloves to help him cure his post psychological and mental trauma he's suffering from the defeat with an exhibition fight he was declared a winner by a majority point decision.

Professor Azumah Nelson, the GBA and the boxing fraternity in Ghana and beyond will like to celebrate your impressive professional career of 46 fights,6 defeats,38 victories,2 draws with 24 of those victories came by way of knockouts.
