Alan Kyerematen's Breakaway Will Gravely Affect NPP In 2024 Election - Dr. Otchere-Ankrah

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a lecturer at the Central University, has advised the New Patriotic Party to amicably address the concerns of Alan Kyerematen for which reason he has withdrawn from the party's November 4 presidential election.

Dr. Otchere-Ankrah warned the party not to trivialize the speculations of Alan breaking away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He noted that Alan leaving the party to run as independent candidate or form his own political party will have dire consequences for the NPP.

Though admitting Alan will not win the 2024 elections, he, however, stressed Alan's breakaway will gravely affect votes for the ruling party.

"The party is at the crossroads. If they don't take care, it will disturb them hugely especially going into 2024. If he forms his own party, he won't win or get any significant votes" but "it is dicey" for the New Patriotic Party, he said while discussing Alan's withdrawal on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".

He urged the party to quickly engage Alan Kyerematen and resolve the conflict.

Alan withdraws from NPP election

Alan Kyerematen on Tuesday, September 5 announced his withdrawal from the upcoming presidential election of the New Patriotic Party despite coming third on the list of the top five candidates to contest the flagbearership on November 4th.

He said in a press statement that "after having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant", adding "the level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of Delegates at various Voting Centers across the sixteen regions, is unprecedented in the history of our Party".

He also stated "the fact that my Polling Agent in the North East region has suffered severe damage to his eye sight, arising from his bold and courageous effort to ensure compliance with the very rules and regulations for the conduct of the elections as approved by the Presidential Elections Committee, will forever remain a dark spot in the history of internal elections within the Party. This incident and various acts of violence and collusion, reported in other Voting Centers, are appalling, unconscionable, and despicable".

"I wish to confirm that I am honourably withdrawing from the process that will lead to the Presidential Primaries to be held on the 4th of November 2023", he emphasized.
