I Wasn't Involved In The Decision To Interdict Or De-Interdict Kokonsa Cops - IGP Reveals

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare says the interdiction of the three senior Police officers, COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Asare and Supt. Emmanuel Gyebi has nothing to do with him.

He disclosed before the Parliamentary Committee probing the leaked tape scandal involving the senior officers and an NPP former Nothern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu, that the interdiction was done in his absence.

A letter signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, indicated that the officers had been interdicted "to make way for disciplinary proceedings into their conduct in line with police service regulations" but later suspended the interdiction.

"Following the interdiction of COP/Mr George Alex Mensah, Supt/Mr Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Supt/Mr George Lysander Asare in connection with the leaked audio tape, the Police Administration would commence disciplinary proceedings into their conduct upon completion of the ongoing probe by Parliament."

"In order not to prejudice the ongoing probe, the Police administration has suspended their interdiction", a subsequent letter said.

Dr. Dampare, appearing before the Committee on Tuesday, September 12, clarified the issues saying the interdiction rather was conducted by the Police Council.

"The truth of the matter is this when all these things happened whilst we are focused on ensuring that we work together as a team across the country and also across all the other security agencies to continue to maintain peace and security for our beloved country, then you get to a point and these things happen and you feel pained that your own brothers can go and do this against you but you forgive because such is nature and the more you forgive, the more you become stronger and preserve your health. So, I moved on but I said that whatever it's going on, I recuse myself from the process", he explained.

"So, I was not part of whatever decision that was taken to interdict or de-interdict anyone. It is the matter that was considered at the Police Council and they handled it in my absence and any time any issue about this particular incident is discussed anywhere within the Police leadership, they fill my absence because I think and I believe that is the right thing to do and that is what happened. I am not involved in the interdiction and de-interdiction of anyone", he emphasized.
