Cocoa Pricing: 'Where Are The Neutral Arbiters?' - Kofi Tonto Calls On CSOs And Media To Speak Truth To Ghanaians

NPP stalwart, Kofi Tonto has called on the media and Civil Society groups to pick up the mantle of educating the public on the importance of the increment in cocoa producer price by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The President recently increased cocoa producer price per bag to GHc1,308 for the new cocoa season; this represents a 63.6% upward adjustment of the farm gate price of cocoa beans.

This announcement brings a big relief to cocoa farmers, however, the largest opposition National Democratic Congress has downplayed the initiative.

They claim they would have done better than President Akufo-Addo's government.

"As we speak now, cocoa prices have seen the biggest increment since 1977, so it is your season to make a profit. If NDC were to be in government, we would have a bag of cocoa at GH¢2,500 and add a premium of GH¢300. So you would have received GH¢2,800 per bag,” Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said at a conference with cocoa farmers at Dadiesoaba in the Ahafo Region.

Responding to the NDC criticisms, Kofi Tonto, on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", appealed to the experts to come out and deflate the argument by the opposition party.

To him, the NDC is mischievously criticizing the move although they know that they are wrong.

"Where are the neutral arbiters?", Kofi Tonto asked.

"This is the time for the media, civil societies and experts to come and tell the truth for Ghanaians to know the truth," he implored, believing should these parties get involved in cocoa pricing brouhaha, the truth will be told and it will be in favour of the government.
