Lardowayo, Shai-Osudoku: Residents Worry As Tombs Are Being Broken by Unknown Persons

The activities of illegal sand winners operating in Lardowayo, a farming community near Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District, and its surrounding communities in the Greater Accra Region have led to the destruction of the public cemetery in the area as residents sobbing due to the fact that graves are damaged by the unidentified people, leaving a foul smell in the neighbourhood.

According to the people, barely a week ago some persons have seemingly turned the area into a sand winning site.

A visit to the area revealed the exposure of human skull.

Residents who live close to the public cemetery, have recently started noticing strange odour emanating from there.

Some of the houses in the area have also been affected by the activities of the sand winners. When UTV visited the area following a police action to access the situation, it was found that a large area of topsoil had been degraded.

Chief of the area, Nene Adjah Bedai and his elders confirmed that they started smelling a bad odour about a week ago and that the odour was reportedly coming from the cemetery, which has been closed to residents of the area for some time.

He mentioned that when he visited the cemetery, he noticed that several graves were open, with no indication of the reason for the terrible tragedy.

They are appealing to the government to come to their aid following the destruction of their cemetery.
