The attention of the Divisional Executives of PSWU-NIA Division has been drawn to a WhatsApp message directing some 67 staff in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions to hand over and report to their new stations in what is termed staff rotation.

The communication has created a huge outcry among District Registration Officers (DRO’s) regarding the channel of communication and the duration within which affected staff are required to report.

According to the Divisional Executives of the PSWU-NIA Division, "though we hold a contrary view to the description of the movement, we welcome it wholeheartedly, except to differ in: the manner and channel of communication of such a crucial message and the time duration given to affected staff to report to their new station."

In an appeal sent to the Executive Secretary of the NIA, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, on Friday, January 5, 2024, the union says it has no objection to the decision of management to move staff from one station to another if it will be in the best interest of the Authority.

"However, we respectfully request that, such should be done in accordance with the relevant provisions of the NIA’s conditions of service, sections 9.4.13 (a-e) and the Ministry of Finance document on Revision of Rates of Category 2&3 Allowances for the Public Service, section 4.2.7.

"Recognition for these relevant provisions would not only set good precedence for future reference, it will also give ample time for affected staff to prepare adequately to accept this change in their new environment.

"We humbly call on you to respectfully consider the relevant provisions surrounding transfer of staff, and give at least, three (3) months’ notice to affected staff to adequately prepare and report to their new stations.

"We further call on you to make the necessary financial commitments readily available to affected staff whose movements would be up to 50km of radius or beyond," an appeal letter sighted by Peacefmonline.com and signed by Francis Banfudeme Nyuzaghl, Divisional Chairman, and Adu Kyeremeh Kwabena, Divisional Secretary, stated.

Meanwhile, the affected DRO's have been directed to write and submit their handing-over notes on or before Thursday, January 11, 2024, and hand them over properly to their replacements and report to their respective new district offices on Friday, 12th January 2024.
