Power Cuts: These Are 'Incompetent Bunch' - Atik Blasts ECG Boss and Staff

Atik Mohammed has taken a swipe at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over the current power cuts.

There has been frequent on and off electricity supply and this is attributed to faulty transformers and overload in the system.

According to the Managing Director of the ECG, Samuel Dubik Mahama, the electricity overload and illegal connections contribute largely to the problem Ghanaians are currently facing.

He also claimed this is further due to technical challenges and assured the population that work is underway to rectify these problems and deliver better services to electricity consumers.

But the ECG boss, to critics, is not being honest with Ghanaians and has also been rebuked for not accepting that Ghana is in a new age of dumsor.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Atik Mohammed, a former General Secretary of the People's National Convention, described the ECG boss and his staff as a bunch of incompetent people.

He argued that the reasons cited by the ECG boss are neither here nor there because, to him, the the company should have the ability to predict what could disrupt their activities so as to pre-plan for any eventualities.

"These ECG people, why are they doing this to us? They are not being transparent with us. They say what we are experiencing is not dumsor or load shedding. What is it then?...Who does maintenance in the night?", he questioned.

To him, the challenge could also not be a revenue issue "because when it comes to revenue collection, they have done well; so I cannot understand why there has been an increase in revenue collection, yet they are difficulties in paying the suppliers in the chain."

Atik therefore asked the ECG boss to be candid with the facts saying "they have to tell us the truth, then we can all appreciate the position they are in".

Further slamming the ECG, he said "you also say that areas have grown the transformers; it even shows that these are incompetent bunch".
