Dumsor Timetable: My Comments Have Been Twisted!! I'll Never Be Insensitive To Ghanaians - Energy Minister

Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has bemoaned the image painted of him by the public following his comments on the irregular power supply by the Electricity Company of Ghana.

Media reports yesterday indicated the Minister telling Ghanaians to provide their own load-shedding timetable in reaction to the public outcry about the power cuts.

The Minister is quoted as saying “let those who want the timetable bring it. I don’t know of any timetable because the ECG has said it is not necessary. Why would someone just wish evil for the country?...I have promised you that we are going to work on it and it’s not a single event. It’s a process”.

These comments have attracted bitterness for Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh who doubles as Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, therefore calling for his response.

Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly called "NAPO", has rebutted the media representation of his statements, stressing there is a spin on his interview which he granted Joy News.

The Minister clarified that he "dismissed the need for a load shedding time table because in his view and as indicated by the Electricity Company of Ghana, the causes of the temporary power challenges are being addressed".

He further said, in a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Kofi Abrefa Afena, and copied to Ghmessenger, his “comparison of the current energy sector to the one under former President John Mahama, where Ghanaians reeled under pervasive ‘Dumsor’ for 4 years, comes on the back of recent similar calls in the media space by the NDC Flagbearer for a load management time table. This call, in the view of the Minister is borne out of the quest to score cheap political points”.

He refuted claims of him being insensitive to the situation Ghanaians are currently facing, asserting that “the Honourable Minister has always been sensitive to the plight of the Ghanaian people and continues to ask for their forbearance, as has always been the case when challenges relative to power stability emerge”.
