We Haven't Given Anybody 30 Slots To Recruit Into Security Services - Interior Minister

The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey has refuted claims by Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson that parliamentary candidates of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has been given slots to recruit people into the security services.

Ato Forson held a press conference and leveled serious allegations against the Interior Ministry; one of which is that the ruling party's parliamentary candidates have each been given 30 slots to bring their own people to join the security services.

This allegation has become a matter of concern for the Interior Minister to address and in an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Hon. Henry Quartey stated emphatically that no candidate has been given such slots.

He wondered why Ato Forson, being an astute Member of Parliament and a former Deputy Minister for Finance, would make such allegations which, to him, have no basis and therefore warned the Minority Leader against the repercussions of his statements.

"I was expecting that Ato Forson if you hear a rumor that we have given parliamentary candidates in Ghana 30 slots each, I mean how is that possible? You should called an emergency meeting for the Defence and Interior Committee to now query me...but to just get up and call a press conference and speak with the media and you say you're speaking on authority, as a Minister who has just come, I can't sit aloof and say this is just a political talk because his actions, it's creating problems for the NPP party as well," he stated.

The Minister also warned against the urge to put out security matters into the public domain, stressing "we don't joke with security matters...because security matters, you handle it behind the scenes. Some of them, you need to go round and talk to people to maintain peace. The mandate of Interior Ministry is to protect lives and properties and maintain law and order. You cannot do that by being aggressive".
