Lawyer Akwetey Lauds Asene Dzaases Rejection Of Ga Kings

Lawyer Bright Akwetey, a legal practitioner and an indigene of the Ga state has lauded the Asene Dzaases rejection of two purported chiefs of the Ga state, Nii Tackie Tawiah III and Nii Adama Latse II. Barrister Akwetey said the move by the Asene Dzaase was in the right direction since they (Asene Dzaase) as the principal king makers of the Ga state were not consulted before Nii Adama Latse II was installed. Explaining the situation to Abena Asiedua Tenkorang, host of Xfms Big Bite morning show, lawyer Akwetey said the issue concerning the Ga stool was still pending in court at Dodowa and as such any inappropriate actions could constitute contempt of court. Its a little worrying. We believe that the Ga-Dangbe council should see the occasion to handle the matter so that at least we see a finality to this phase of crisis so at least we will all speak with one voice very soon. There are no three chiefs in Accra as people have been saying. There can be only one chief at a particular time and I believe that the Dodowa Judicial Committee will be able to resolve that matter if we have the patience to allow the process to go ahead. He said the Asene people have voiced their displeasure because the person in Asene who should have done what Nii Amarkai purposed to have done was not the person who did it. I was not aware they were going to do this thing and the Asene Dzaase which spoke yesterday were also not notified. The person who went in the name of Asene apparently was not the person who should have been performing whatever function hes purported to have performed. He said though the one who undertook the installation was from a side of the Asene family, that side of the family was not constitutionally or customarily mandated to undertake such functions in the Ga state. In view of this, Barrister Akwetey was of the opinion that the Asene Dzaase had every right to disassociate themselves from the installations since the cases in Dodowa were yet to end. He opined that the installation that was done on Saturday was only the beginning of a number of stages in installing a king adding that the absence of the Asene Dzaase in the other stages nullifies the whole process. He was however of the strong conviction that this years homowo would not be affected by the Ga stool crisis.
