The former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings and her campaign team, would on Wednesday, begin a two-day campaign tour of the Eastern Region. The team is in the region to solicit the support of the delegates for the forthcoming congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)in the region. Nana Konadu would start the campaign by meeting with the Eastern Regional Executives of the NDC behind closed doors at the party head office, at Koforidua, before moving to Somanya to meet the first group of delegates from eight constituencies. Speaking to the press after the meeting, the spokesman for the Rawlingses, Mr Kofi Adams said the team would spend two days in the region to meet the delegates of the party behind closed doors. He declined to give the itinerary of the campaign team to the press and said all the meetings would be held behind closed doors. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the Eastern Regional Vice-Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Somaila Mahama said the regional executives had given their blessing to Nana Konadu and her team to meet the 280 delegates and seven founding members of the party in the region, who would be voting at the congress. He said the campaign team is keeping their programme to the region on their chest and even refused to disclose it to the regional executive. Alhaji Mahama said the region had no restrictions to the campaign team and has given them the opportunity to meet all the delegates in the region and was ready to offer the team the necessary support to ensure that they have a free democratic campaign in the region. Nana Konadu is contesting the president of the country, Professor John Evans Atta Mills to be the flag bearer of the NDC, for the 2012 national elections.
