Police: Yes!, NDC Volunteers Are Helping Us Maintain Security In Sunyani

Acting Head of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur, says the police is unaware of the planned services of the dreaded Azorka Boys to assist them in providing security during this weekends Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He, however, admits that the police will be working hand in hand with some NDC volunteers to provide security in Sunyani, more especially at the congress grounds. Mohammed Ayuba alias So Nice, Commander of the Azorka Boys in Tamale says he will be leading about 1,800 of his troops to Sunyani for the upcoming NDC national delegates congress slated for July 8 to 10, 2011. This number, according investigation is higher than the projected 1,500 policemen expected to provide security at the landmark event. According to Mohammed Ayuba, the move is to complement operations of the national security apparatus in Sunyani before, during and after the much awaited NDC congress to ensure that nothing untoward happens. I am not aware of such information. We have gathered our intelligence and we have a strategy to protect the people. We dont know any group called Azorka. We are only working with the security department of NDC and so we are not working with any groupings, the Police P.R.O said in an interview with Shamima Muslim on Citi Eyewitness News. When asked if the NDC has provided the police with some volunteers to assist them in providing security at the congress grounds, DSP Cephas Arthur said: this is part of our secret. We have synchronized our security service with theirs and we are going to use as many men as possible to provide security. We are looking at protecting life and property. We are protecting all manner of people, strengthening security along the highways as well as ensuring that nothing untoward occurs, he stated.
