Konadu And JJ Arrive in Sunyani

Former First Lady and President Mills� only challenger to his bid to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a second time, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has arrived in Sunyani for the party�s historic delegates� congress. Nana Konadu arrived together with her husband and founder of the NDC, former President Jerry John Rawlings on Friday evening. As expected the entire Konadu for 2012 Campaign Team, as well as members of the group Friends of Nana Konadu (FONKAR) campaign throughout the night, side by side with the supporters of President Mills. Over 3,500 delegates are expected to vote for the one to lead the party for the next four years. Meanwhile, the venue for the historic event, the 10,000 seater Sunyani Coronation park as well as the town itself is awash with NDC paraphernalia and a variety of posters of both President Mills and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, touting the credentials of each candidate. Traders in NDC paraphernalia are engaged in brisk business, food sellers and operators of drinking bars are expecting a bumper trade. Hotel rooms run out over a month and a half ago. Several busloads of delegates from the regions have arrived, with a few more expected. At the moment anyone who matters in the NDC is in Sunyani. Both the President and his Vice had reportedly arrived. Sunyani was voted the cleanest city in Ghana for the year 2007 by the Ghana Tourist Board. In the December 21, 2006 primary, then candidate John Evans Atta swept aside all opposition, especially that of his supposed greatest threat, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, to romp to a third electoral victory at the National Democratic Congress' National Delegates' Congress held at the University of Ghana, Legon. Prof Mills polled 1,362 votes, representing 81.4 percent. Dr Spio-Gabrah managed only 146 of the 1,720 votes on offer, representing 8.7 percent. The other contestants, Alhaji Iddrisu polled 137 votes, representing 8.2 percent; Eddie Annan won 28 representing only 1.7 percent of the delegates
