Airtel Sensitises Customers On Mobile Number Portability

Airtel, one of the leading operating telecommunication companies in the country, has organised a float to sensitise the general public -- especially consumers of its products about the newly-introduced mobile number portability. The float, which was simultaneously held in Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale, was to demonstrate the companys commitment to the implementation of the MNP which gives subscribers the opportunity to move from one mobile service company to the other without losing their number. Officials of the company also use the float to educate its subscribers of the need to register their sim cards in order not to lose their numbers, as well as the importance of subscribing to their services. Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs at Airtel, Ghana, Donald Gwira said the float is one of many activities organised to educate the public on the MNP. We started with the knowledge seminars for the media, questions and answers on MNP printed in several newspapers and other activities demonstrate our commitment to MNP. Airtel is ready with over 10,000 retail outlets across the country to make the porting exercise seamless. He added that their simply magic promotion, which is one of many, has several offers including 100 free Airtel to Airtel SMSs daily after paying for the first 2 daily. We are also the fastest-growing network in Ghana and our customer service initiatives have won us awards in Ghana and beyond. I can assure potential customers we are a network of choice worth porting to, ever-ready to accommodate their needs, he said. Again, he added that customers in Ghana can now have the luxury of enjoying Airtel services at simple and more convenient rates and affordable tariffs. The Mobile Network Portability is an initiative by the National Communication Authority targetted at giving consumers the opportunity to freely switch their services, especially when they are unhappy with the services provided to them by a company.
