Medium Tax Payers To File Returns Electronically- GRA

At the beginning of next year, all business entities earning between 90,000 cedis and 5million annually will be required to honour their tax obligations electronically. This follows Ghana Revenue Authoritys moves to bring all medium tax payers to use a special system called TRIPS in a bid to remove all tedious processes companies go through to file their returns. This will mean business entities can sit in their offices to pay their taxes electronically after which auditors from the GRA will come in to verify later. The system has already been piloted with the large tax payers whose annual earnings are above 5 million cedis. The acting Commissioner for the Domestic Tax Revenue Division Comfort Boahene-Osafo explained to Citi Business News, how the system would work eventually. She intimated that we are going to set up pilot offices for medium tax payers and small tax payers, we have large tax payer as an example of the work flow and we are going to replicate similar work flows. We have segmented our tax payers, we have the tax payer profile and we are hoping that we can key in most of the tax payers as we have done for large tax payers. We have been doing it in the last six months, each page of the work flow, time you register as a tax payer or a business entity, you have to register with us and at the same time register with registrar general. We are profiling all these tax payers and making sure that when we go out there to audit, we will have them doing the right thing.
