ECG "Shuts Down" TOR...Over Electricity Bills

The Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Mr. Ato Ampiah has confirmed to Citi FM that TOR has suspended operations for about two days due to its power disconnection from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). According to Mr. Ampiah no notice was given to TOR and the light went out around midday on Wednesday July 13 and has not been restored as of 9 am Thursday July 14. He said the power was disconnected according to the ECG due to non-payment of bills on the part of the Tema Oil Refinery. ECG says we own them 1.4 million Ghana Cedis, our reconciliation as at 8:15 Thursday morning indicates that we own them about 540,000 Ghana cedis. We are still doing our reconciliation and we strongly believe that this figure would drop further. "We would have an assessment meeting and we would know the exact situation, but everybody should learn that TOR is a limited liability and it can sue and be sued. Mr Ato Ampiah also told Citi FM that payment has been done to ECG for which has not been captured in their book. "ECGs accounting has been suspect and they should not have acted on an un-reconciled accounting.
