About 100 articulator truck drivers blocked the main Bolga-Tamale-Kumasi road in the Upper East Region with their trucks on Monday in protest against what they call unfair treatment by the Ghana Highway Authority. According to some of the drivers who spoke on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Monday morning, the manageress of the Bolga Weigh-in Bridge has been shortchanging them in a lot of ways hence their protest to register their displeasure. They told Joe Osei Owusu Jnr, Adom FM�s correspondent in the Upper East Region that the GH�100 they are charged for each ton of goods loaded is too exorbitant and they cannot continue to pay such amounts. The drivers also alleged that they are not issued with tickets when they pay tolls at the Bridge and although they had complained to the Highway Authority and some government officials had had talks with the manageress, all their efforts had been fruitless. A driver who claimed he was the first to block the road with his truck said the attitude of the manageress leaves much to be desired and so they are calling for her removal. Meanwhile, passengers going to and from Bolga are all stranded because no vehicle is being allowed access. Efforts to reach the manageress of the Bolga Weigh Bridge proved futile. Meanwhile, the Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) in the Upper East Region, DSP Kwaku Bempah has appealed to the drivers to move their trucks to pave way for free flow of traffic because further blockade will inconvenience travelers, traders and everyone especially so as Mondays are market days for the people of Bolga.
