Between Emile Short And Lauretta Lamptey

The former boss for the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Emile Short has called on his new successor, Lauretta Lamptey to brace herself up for the task ahead at her new office. Justice Emile Short went on voluntary retirement as CHIRAJ boss in November 2010, after serving the Commission for 17 years. He was briefly succeeded in acting capacity by his deputy, Anna Bossman who also resigned some two months back after serving as Ag. Commissioner. Miss Bossman was never confirmed. An Investment Banker, Lauretta Lamptey, however was sworn in on Tuesday 26th July, 2011, as the new Commissioner for CHRAJ. Speaking to Citi News from his base in Tanzania, Justice Short wished his new successor well cautioning that mandate of CHRAJ is enormous. All I would like to say is that the appointment is welcome as Miss Bossman and I departed from the Commission, there has been a vacuum and so this is a welcome development because CHRAJ can now get back to work. CHRAJ is not only a human right commission but an anti-corruption institution as well. So it is a huge mandate and enormous task for anybody". "But I am sure that with the help of the deputy commissioner and staff, she should be able to discharge her functions. She would have to assess the situation and determine how to proceed. Meanwhile gender activists in Ghana have also welcomed Madam Lauretta Vivian Lampteys appointment as the new commissioner for CHRAJ. Some of them also expressed displeasure at Governments delay in confirming Miss Anna Bossman as substantive commissioner after acting for several months. Adjoa Bame, a leading member of the gender coalition, NETRIGHT told Citi News that Ms. Lampteys appointment shows that women are capable of occupying high public offices and contributing to the growth of the country. I think its a good thing although its a shame that Anna Bossman was never confirmed as Commissioner. But its fine that another equally capable woman has been given that opportunity. Miss Bossman did a good job when she was acting as commissioner so I have no doubts about any womans abilities to do it". "I want to believe that theyve done their analysis to know that Miss Lauretta is up to the task and will deliver.
