Ghana: John Barnes Installed Chief

The Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu has described the Liverpool football club legend, John Barnes, as an icon to Africans, who has projected the continent through his career as a successful footballer. Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu said this at a colourful ceremony to welcome the Liverpool and England international to his Palace at Dormaa-Ahenkro on Tuesday, July 26. John Barnes received an inspiring and colorful reception right from the Sunyani Airport, and was driven through the ceremonial streets of Sunyani to the Dormaahene's Palace, where a durbar was organised in his honour. The paramount chief of Dormaa described the visit of John Barnes as historic and a source of inspiration to the youth of the Traditional area, particularly, young footballers and the players of Aduana Football Club, to be disciplined and determined to achieve great successes in their careers. Osagyefo Oseadeeyo emphasised that with discipline, determination and perseverance, the black man is capable of achieving anything in the world. �It is never true that the black man is incapable, we only have to improve upon our discipline, attitude, determination, and never say die spirit, which is lacking,� he stressed. He continued that John Barnes and other Black African sports personalities have distinguished themselves very well and have proven that the African has a lot to offer the world. The Dormaa Traditional Council expressed their appreciation by installing John Barnes as Asuafohene of the Dormaa Traditional Area, which literally means �chief of inspiration�, and was given the stool name Baffour Kwabena Ansu Gyeabour. Osagyefo assured that the traditional council would support John Barnes, in whatever project he wants to start in Ghana, adding that the relationship between Dormaa and Barnes would be everlasting. John Barnes thanked Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu for the honour done him, and promised to respond to their call.
