DFP Chairmen Join NPP

A group of young men claiming to be regional chairmen of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Thursday announced their decision to join forces with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) towards winning the 2012 elections. Mr Bernard Anvuur-Billy, spokesperson for the group, who said he was a parliamentary aspirant of the Ayawaso East Constituency for the DFP, said at a media briefing in Accra that their decision to join the NPP was because the DFP national executive did not consult people at the grassroots. Mr Anvuur-Billy, who claimed that the press conference was attended by all regional chairmen of the party, could not, however, point out who they were. Three people who were present at the press conference said they were from the Ashanti, Volta and the Upper West Regions. The statement he read said: We the 10 regional chairmen of the DFP present here today, met in Accra to take a holistic look at the structures of the DFP and our poor performance in the 2008 elections, which we realize need re-organisation. Ironically, he himself is not a regional chairman and even the Greater Accra regional chairman was not present. Mr Anvuur-Billy said it was not proper for the DFP to join forces with the NDC because of the harsh economic conditions in the country, adding that it was only the NPP under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could transform Ghana. He said it was in the constitutional right of the National Executives to rejoin the NDC as it was also in their right as chairmen to join a party of their choice, the NPP, which was the best alternative. The statement said: After completing a tour of the 10 regions and further in consultation with the broad masses of our party members we have decided to join forces with the NPP to win power in 2012. For us the NPP is a political force of our choice since our research shows that the NPP is the only political party that can articulate, pursue and implement a political philosophy or agenda that will result in the consistent improvement in the lives of the masses. Mr Anvuur-Billy said they were prepared to do anything possible to help the NPP come back to power to address the countrys economic problems.
