Corruption High In NDC

THE MEMBER of Parliament for Binduri, Stephen Yakubu has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of abusing power and grabbing properties everywhere. He said the attitude and claims of the NDC government while in opposition are far different from what they are currently doing, thereby contradicting the partys social democratic ideology. In his view, a social democratic party should be creating jobs and opportunities for the masses to enhance their lives and not deprive people of job opportunities to favour a few party faithful. He was speaking at a seminar organized by the Tertiary Students Confederation of the NPP at Navrongo. Mr. Yakubu noted that under the New Patriotic Party regime, Ghana saw massive infrastructural development and other social interventions including the School Feeding Programme and Capitation Grant among other things intervention with the main aim of reducing peoples burdens and poverty levels. Unfortunately, under the NDC government most of these interventions are not working as expected while job opportunities are closed to many Ghanaians resulting in massive unemployment in the country in the face of high living standards, Mr. Yakubu noted. The Binduri MP said the governing style of the NDC between 1992 and 2000 compelled former President Kufuor regime to opt for HIPC. He warned that Ghana could go HIPC again if the rampant borrowing by Mills administration is not checked. According to him, the current government has so far borrowed about a total of $18 billion. And as if that is not enough, the NDC has created inequality in the country and divided it along tribal lines. This is bad for this country and must not be accepted. They have decided to rule with lies and intimidation with the aim of cowing Ghanaians into keeping them in power in 2012. For his part, the MP for Chiana-Paga, Leo Kaba charged NPP members to remain united towards the 2012 polls, saying that it was the only way the party will return to power. He said the NPP won power in 2000 because the party was united and focused. There is therefore the need to be united this time around in order to win election 2012 since the masses are fed up with the NDC government and its appointees. He minced no words in accusing government of corruption and saying the NDC has made many Ghanaians poor. Former MP for Zebilla, John Akparibo Ndebugre who was also at the seminar told the students that the 1966 coup which pushed Ghanas first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah out of power was justified. This he explained was because Nkrumah amended the Constitution to ensure he could not be voted out of power.
