Fear Grips NPP Over Frances Asiams Candidature

New Patriotic Party (NPP) members and supporters at the Adenta Constituency in the Greater Accra region are raising red flags over the candidature of Madam Frances Awurabena Asiam for the 2012 elections. The contention of the NPP partisans at Adenta is that Madam Asiam has not stayed in the constituency for four years, as stipulated by the NPP constitution. Apart from the residence status, concerns have been raised in connection with the curriculum vitae that Madam Asiam submitted to the party during the vetting before she became the partys candidate. Again, concerns have been raised to the effect that Madam Asiam flouted the partys regulations for elections when she allegedly bribed delegates on the day of the primary at Adenta. Leading the onslaught are Messrs Ebenezer Boohene Akuffo and Eric Omari Agyapong Innes, who have filed a petition at the partys headquarters against Madam Asiam. They said in the petition that Madam Asiam had said in her curriculum vitae that she helped the NPP in 2008, but that has been found to be untrue. According to them, Madam Asiam only became member of the NPP in 2009, so that was her business in helping the NPP in 2008 when she was not a member of the party. They said in the petition addressed to the General Secretary, as well as the flagbearer, that Madam Asiams claim of being a member of the Council of Patrons cannot be true. The petitioners said that Madam Asiam said in her curriculum vitae that she is a member of the Young Executives but that has also been found to be false. Backing their claims with a copy of Madam Asiams curriculum vitae, they said that it would be important for the party to investigate the issues they are raising. They said in the petition that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is quietly waiting to pounce on the issues come 2012.
