Castle Man Jailed

A 55-year-old man alleged to be a member of a cabal at the seat of government, Osu Castle allegedly attached to the confiscated vehicles committee, has been convicted on fraud charges. Isaac Amissah was fined in the sum of GH24,000 or in default spend five years in jail. According to the prosecution, the convict, who is a clerk at the Castle, Osu, had taken an amount of GH18,500 from a complainant and her lecturer under the guise of securing them confiscated vehicles. The money he took was payments made for the delivery of one Toyota Highlander and two Toyota Camry saloon cars. He however failed to deliver on his promise and was arraigned when investigations into the matter were completed. The Castle has come under serious public criticism for being a hub for such cabals who ply their trade between the Castle and the Tema Harbour where confiscated vehicles are kept for auctioning. Several persons including high-profile personalities have become victims of their pranks, with most of them becoming frustrated over a period while the fraudsters got off the hook because they are somewhat connected to the power brokers. It would be recalled that a Castle boy, Nii Amon Kotey, was alleged to have defrauded over 55 persons to the tune of several thousands of cedis. While some of his victims paid GH400,000.00, others parted with GH70.00. In some cases, he rented the cars of his victims and never brought them back. Currently, over 35 cars belonging to various car rental companies are alleged to be in his custody. Amon has been in and out of police custody. The conviction of Amissah has however come as welcoming news for other victims of such hoodlums who seek to drag the seat of governance into the mud. It also serves as a beacon of hope to these victims who have been frustrated over the years and are almost giving up. Meanwhile, Amissah is facing similar charges over a GH5,500.00 he took from another complainant. All efforts by the said complainant to retrieve the money have proved futile.
