The Volta Region branch of the United Cadres Front, a pressure group in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the government and the party leadership to holistically interrogate the circumstances that led to the recent demonstration by a section of the youth in Ho. According to them, the recent agitation in the Ho township by some of the party youth should not be seen as dangerous, but rather a wake up call for the political leadership in the region to initiate programmes that would educate the people on developments carried out in the region by the government. The Deputy Volta Regional Coordinator of the United Cadres Front, Mr. Bright Amedjoe, in a statement to The Chronicle, stressed the need for the government and the party to urgently investigate the issues raised by the demonstrators, because, �it is true that the political leaders have disappointed the people in the region.� To them, the Volta Region needed the right political leadership that is result-oriented to lead it. The cadres, however, called on the agitated youth to exercise restraint, before the opponents of NDC capitalise on their grievances to discredit the Atta Mills government. According to the cadres, they appreciate genuine concerns raised by the demonstrators about the under development of the region, but said there were signs that the two major projects, the State University for the Volta Region, and the construction of the eastern corridor roads, would be fulfilled, as promised by the government. Meanwhile, the Regional Organiser of the ruling party, Mr. Henry Ametepe, has welcomed the call by the cadres for the leadership of the party to probe the incident. Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle at Ho yesterday, Ametepe said the cadres had every legitimate right to demand a probe into the action by the youth, and that the regional executives are in the process of hauling all those who were involved in the demonstration to the disciplinary committee of the party.
