Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in the 2008 general elections, has filed a writ at an Accra High Court against a columnist of ghanaweb.com for writing defamatory articles meant to destroy him.
The ex-CPP flag-bearer, who believes the columnist, Dadzie Kweku, has exposed him to ridicule and public hatred, wants the court to stop any further publications on him by the said Dadzie as well as award GH�500,000 for libel and the false and malicious articles written against him.
This was contained in a writ filed at Dzidedi Chambers in Accra by Ellis Quashiegah, counsel for Dr. Nduom, the applicant, on August 23, 2011.
In his statement of case, the ex-CPP candidate said he was an astute and renowned politician both at home and abroad while the respondent, Mr. Dadzie, portrayed himself as a columnist on the network www.ghanaweb.com for the reading of the general public.
It said despite Dr. Nduom�s reputation both locally and internationally, the respondent, in a grand design to malign him, was in the habit of publishing malicious and scandalous materials about him on the network.
According to the statement of claim, for no just cause whatsoever, the defendant, on August 15, 2011, published and posted scandalous materials about Dr. Nduom on ghanaweb. The publication was captioned �Nduom Continues To Destroy Nkrumaism.�
The statement noted that in the article, the columnist said the applicant took back his filling fee of GH�20 million from the CPP, having known that he would lose the flagbearership against Professor Hagan in 2000.
Furthermore, it stated that the columnist further wrote that he �is a pretentious political trick of a wolf in a sheep�s clothing and parading about as an Nkrumaist yet principally worshipping political thievery� in Ghana for Western Imperialism.
The statement was of the view that the said feature article, which was posted on the net, would be tendered in evidence, and said Mr. Dazdie ought to have known the irreparable damage that article could cause Dr. Nduom�s reputation and integrity.
Explaining further, it said the acts of the respondent had exposed Dr. Nduom to public ridicule, noting that he hardly slept as a result of the calls from his numerous friends and sympathizers since the publications, which attracted 36 comments from the public, was put on the net.
In addition, it also wants an unqualified apology in like manner and of the same prominence given to the said article, and other costs the court deems fit.
