A KUMASI Circuit Court presided over by R.M. Kogyapwah has sentenced Adonteng Isaac aka Ola, a native of Bonwire in the Ashanti region, to 10 years� imprisonment in hard labour for illegally possessing narcotic drugs. The 40-year-old convict was jailed after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of illicit drugs without lawful authority. Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Police Chief Inspector James Amekah said, on August 20, 2011, at about 10:00am, the Asawase Police apprehended the convict for threatening to kill a neighbour. When the convict was thoroughly searched at the police charge office, dried leaves suspected to be cannabis wrapped in eight cement papers were found on him. On August 23, 2011, the convict was handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the police service in Kumasi for further investigation. In his caution statement, Adonteng Isaac admitted having bought the drugs from Asotwe but refused to lead the police to his source of supply. Meanwhile, the judge has ordered the exhibits to be destroyed under the supervision of the court registrar. In a related development, another Circuit Court in Kumasi presided over Emmanuel Amoh Yartey has sentenced two robbers to 50 years� imprisonment each in hard labour for robbery. The court found Faisal Ibrahim and Victor Owusu guilty on two counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery, contrary to sections 23 and 149 of Acts 29/69 as amended by Act 646/2003 respectively. The two pleaded not guilty to the charges. Faisal Ibrahim, a driver and Victor Owusu, a carpenter, are both residents of Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital. State Attorney Osei Hwere, who led the prosecution, said the convicts and Teni, an accomplice who is now at large, succeeded in snatching a VW Passat private vehicle registered GR 8084 V, from Evans Frimpong, a Marketing Officer at Ghana Nuts Limited in Techiman. On July 26, 2011, at 10:30pm, the complainant was driving from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi to meet his family at Kwadaso Nsuom, a suburb at Kumasi, when Faisal Ibrahim signalled him to stop. Frimpong, thinking the convict was a neighbour and needed a ride home, stopped, only for Ibrahim to point a locally-made pistol at his head. According to the attorney, Ibrahim ordered him to hand over the cars key or risk being killed. Owusu and Teni then emerged from a nearby bush with knives, pulled the complainant out of the vehicle and sped off with the car. On July 27, 2011, at about 5:00am, a witness in the case spotted the complainant�s vehicle, being driven by Ibrahim, at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region. Quickly, the witness alerted the Techiman police, who responded without delay, resulting in the arrest of the robber while the car was seized. When Ibrahim was interrogated by the police, he admitted the offence and mentioned Owusu and Teni as his accomplices. He assisted the police to arrest the two.
