Sunderland Coach Launches Attack On Asamoah Gyan's UAE Move, Rules Out Striker's Return

Sunderland coach Steve Bruce has launched an astonishing attack on Asamoah Gyan insisting the Ghanaian has no future at the club when his loan deal with Al- Ain expires. In a veiled attack on the striker, the manager of the English side questioned the wisdom in Gyans move to the United Arab Emirates. The 25-year-old signed a one-year loan deal with the UAE club on Saturday. Sunderland agreed the deal to transfer the Ghanaian player to the the Abu Dhabi club before Gyan agreed his personal terms. Gyan must return to Sunderland to serve the remainder of his four-year contract after the start of next season. Even though Sunderland negotiated terms with Al Ain before Gyan sealed the loan deal, Bruce implied that the move is a backward step. Other people can make their own conclusions. You leave the biggest and best league in the world to go play in the United Arab Emirates, Bruce said sarcastically on Saturday night. Im sorry but sometimes football, sometimes its baffling to say the least. Very disappointed in the timing of it, the whole thing has left a bad taste if Im being honest. The Sunderland coach says the Ghanaian striker is unlikely to be used by the Black Cats when his loan deal in the UAE expires. No I dont, I dont believe that, I dont believe hes got a future here, I dont think he can when asked if Gyan had a future at the Stadium of Light. You cant leave this club and want to leave and want to go the United Arab Emirates and were going to welcome you back with open arms, I cant see it but you never know. Bruce who thought he had won the battle to keep his priced asset amidst reported interest from big European clubs when the transfer window was shut at the end of last month. The manager claims he is shocked that Gyan moved even though the striker had assured him of staying with Sunderland. I had a conversation with him 48 hours ago and he assured me, he shook my hand, that he wanted to be a Sunderland player, wanted to see the season, wanted to go the African Nations again in good form, wanted to work on his fitness levels then all of a sudden within a few hours it seems things have changed, Bruce said following their 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday. While the Sunderland coach seems to be blaming Gyan for angling for the move to the UAE, questions are also being asked of the Black Cats role in the sale of the player. If Sunderland were not keen on the cash put on the table by Al Ain they wouldnt have agreed to the move like they turned down offers from Galatasaray. The 25-year-old will join the Abu-Dhabi club on a one-year loan into just his second of his four-year contract with the Black Cats. Sunderland paid a club record of 13m to secure his services from French club Stade Rennes.
