Samia Is Only Riding On Nkrumahs Back...Lacks Capacity To Lead - Sekou

Sekou Nkrumah, former Acting Coordinator of the National Youth Council (NYC) and son of Ghanas first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, says the election of Samia Yaba Nkrumah as the Chairperson of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) does not come to him as a big surprise but posits that his sister has to prove her capabilities to lead if she has any. Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, who was speaking on the Big Bite on Xfm 95.1, maintains that Samia won the CPP Chairmanship by virtue of the fact that she is the daughter of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, adding that Samia would be working with the same old people within the party though she has been tasked with the challenge of energizing the party as well as reaching out to more people. He however wondered how far efforts to re-brand Samia as the new face of the CPP would go since politics in recent times is effective on substance than form. It also looks like they want to package Samia as the new face of CPP obviously riding on the back of being Nkrumahs daughter. How far also that can go is a different matter because in many ways I think our politics has become much more sophisticated and I think its much more effective on substance than form, he said. Now a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Sekou Nkrumah stressed that Samia came into the political scene not long ago, adding that the responsibility of leading a party was a different ball game and as such, she would have to prove her capabilities if she has any. Sekou Nkrumah said the CPPs continuous ignorance of the NDCs dominance in CPP constituencies was his biggest difficulty since he saw the NDC as the new CPP adding that Samia could sell the CPP as Nkrumahs daughter beyond that Im not seeing anything else. The point is that she is Nkrumahs daughter, beyond that Im not seeing anything else. Yes its possible in a sense she can sell the party as Nkrumahs daughter but to what extent thats very superficial. If you are really talking about substance, then, what has she done in her short political life? he asked rather pejoratively.
