Yaw Boateng Gyan: NDC Has Better Things To Do Than Slur Nana Addo

National Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, has made nonsense of reports that the NDC is in the process of facilitating the arrival of a woman from the United Kingdom into Ghana to give evidence in support of allegations that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a marijuana and cocaine user. According to him, the NDC has a lot of work on its hands to do than wasting precious time on issues unrelated to governance. He was emphatic that the ruling party has no hand in the allegations of drug use leveled against Nana Akufo-Addo, pointing out that it was rather the NPP who began the spreading those malicious reports. It was members of the NPP who first washed the dirty linen of Nana Addo in public and gave other people the opportunity to also use it against himthese drug allegations were first bandied about during their (NPPs) 2007 presidential primaries where some people within the party started sending text messages to that effect, he claimed. The New Statesman on Monday, September 12th published that it is reliable informed that a woman, whose name is yet to be revealed, has been paid a whopping 200,000 to come into the country to make claims that she had been abusing a wide range of drugs with the NPP flagbearer during his years spent living in the UK. According to the publication, a tall list of coached witnesses, who are known junkies, from the UK are also to be flown into the country to give credence to the NDC star witnesss testimony. The New Statesman says this is part of a concerted plot by the NDC to fulfil its promise of engaging primarily in the politics of assessing the characters of presidential candidates as opposed to focusing on issues that affect Ghanaians in the run-up to the 2012 elections. But speaking in an interview on Asempa FMs Ekosii sen political show, the NDC National Organiser who discounted the publication, stressed that the NPP flagbearer needs to put closure to the issue of his alleged drug use and silence his critics by openly admitting if during his youthful days he did dabble in drugs. To him, it is surprising and disappointing how every negative thing that happens in this country is attributed to either the NDC or the NPP. people have constantly ignored my admonishing that we exercise discretion regarding what we say about people who are seeking to lead this country since it will come back to haunt us with damning consequences in the future," he said. Citing the frosty relationship that existed between members of the Get Atta Mills Elected (GAME) and Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) in the run-up to the partys National Delegates Congress in Sunyani, Yaw B Gyan said he was worried when the trading of words escalated simply because whatever was said about any of the two candidates could be used against the party in future. when people make allegations on radio and in the media especially during political program; they tend to forget that posterity will judge whatever they say...," he added.
