New Faces Storm NDC

While Ras Mubarak has already hit the campaign trail because the constituency he has set his sight on is an orphan one to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), his friend Haruna Abdul Rashid, a Nima boy seeks to overthrow Dr. Mustapha Ahmed in the East Ayawaso constituency. The newness of the duo does not lie in their membership of the ruling party but in seeking parliamentary seats. The two persons, friends for that matter, say they have wonderful things up their sleeves which would add freshness to politics in the country, a departure from the old order. Being a constituency in which there is a sitting NDC MP, Haruna, a US trained chartered accountant is debarred from doing anything now besides telling his friends and others about his intentions. The former, Ras Mubarak, a pro-Rawlings politician is a new breed who filed his nomination papers a few days ago making good his promise of contesting the Ablekuma North seat. He has been in the forefront of the crusade to change the face of the NDC, supporting the ideas of former President Rawlings. Known for his uprightness, he is not a favourite of pro-Mills elements in the party. He was accompanied by an impressive number of party persons, most of them delegates who have the power to make his dream of representing the constituency in the parliamentary election for next year come true. It has been 16 years since the constituency fell to the NPP, a development he wants to reverse if given the baton by his party delegates. Haruna Abdul Rashid Ibrahim, a man who says he is set to alter the status quo in the East Ayawaso constituency, is still waiting on the fringes until the time is due to vie for the nod of his party. According to him, the constituency requires leadership that would harness the rich human resource that abounds in the area. Nima, he noted, has for long been marginalized and requires special attention to change things. He has already created a community development fund which he said is proof of his sincerity about his intentions. In a chat with DAILY GUIDE, he said, These unemployed young men must be helped, I am ready to do so. It is unimaginable that Nima still harbours public toilets which are susceptible to explosion. Nima can boast of only a single public school, Accra Girls Senior High School which accepts only 10% of girls from the place. Haruna was born and raised in Nima where he attended the Nurul Islam Islamic School, New Nation School and Ghana National College, Cape Coast. He proceeded to the US where he obtained his first degree from University of Maryland and an MBA in Finance from Morgan State University. He recently passed his CPA examinations. Before returning home he worked with one of the worlds largest energy companies, Constellation Energy Group where he was Vice President for Risk Management. When the whistle is blown for the commencement of the race for the nod of Nima delegates Haruna and two others will slug it out with the incumbent Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, who doubles as Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, the paper gathered.
