Nurses Threaten Demo

Nurses and midwife trainees in Ghana have threatened to demonstrate by the end of this month if government does not improve their conditions of service. They claim they are poorly paid, a situation that makes life unbearable for them. According to the nurses their concerns for an increase in their allowances have been ignored several times when they petition authorities. The President of the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association, Andrew Tettey told Citi News that the association has run out of patience. Those concerns that have been expressed by our members are long overdue, and as a national president, I must say that the elasticity of our patience has been over stretched so this time we will not sit down. If we look at salary or allowances given to a student nurse and comparing it to what goes into the cost of training the students nurses, it is very frustrating and unfair. The nurses, earlier, in July, threatened strike to if government did not migrate them on to the Single Spine pay policy.
