The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Armed Forces Colonel Mbawine Atintande says the image of the army has not been damaged after some four army officers were arrested for robbery.
He however added that the army is worried by the acts of the officers and is taking conscious efforts �to weed out bad nuts from the army�.
The Daily Guide on Friday reported that four serving officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) are currently in the grips of the Police for their alleged involvement in a series of robbery cases on the Spintex road in Accra.
The four, Corporals Francis Marfo, Alorvor Yaw Mark, Glymon Dickson and Anthony Hammond Quaye and another suspect, Peter Omari-Ansong, who had been dismissed from the army for reasons not immediately known, allegedly attacked their victims at gun point and robbed them of their belongings including money.
They were arrested on September 8 2011, around the offices of the Western Union along the Spintex road where they had laid ambush and were robbing unsuspecting members of the public who went there to do business.
The soldiers pretended to be taking their victims to the Police Headquarters and when they got to a certain point, they pull you out, beat you up and take whatever money you have on you.
Confirming the story to Citi News on Friday September 23, Colonel Mbawine Atintande said the five officers would be prosecuted since they have fallen foul of the law.
He added that after the officers are tried and brought back the Armed Forces will also know what to do since there is a possibility that they could be exonerated.
The officers are scheduled to reappear in court on October 7.
