SAMUEL KWESI Otoo, a 35-year old resident of �U Compound�, a Tema New-Town suburb, is currently languishing in the cells of the Tema New-Town Police Station for allegedly lacing food prepared by his fianc�e, meant for his friend, with poison.
Otoo was alleged to have about a year ago introduced his friend to his fianc�e, Margaret Sam, whom he lived with. He was reported to have told her to cook for him anytime his friend asked her to.
This was reported to have continued for a while until Otoo started accusing Margaret of cheating on him with his friend. The lady, who has two children by him, according to DAILY GUIDE�s source, denied the allegation and threatened to stop cooking for the friend if he did not stop accusing her.
He was also reported to have exchanged words with Margaret over her cooking for his friend.
Thinking Otoo was just being jealous over nothing, Margaret was alleged to have continued cooking for her boyfriend�s friend anytime he brought her foodstuffs.
Probably to show his unhappiness about his fianc�e cooking for his friend, Otoo was reported to have, on September 21, 2011, around 7 pm, sneaked into their kitchen and poured some poisonous insecticide into some rice and stew prepared for the friend by Margaret.
The lady, who returned to the kitchen moments later, detected that the aroma of the food had changed, compelling her to taste the boiled rice. She was said to have spat out the rice from her mouth due to the severe burning sensation she experienced. The same was said of the stew. A plastic container believed to have contained the insecticide was also spotted near the rice.
Suspecting Otoo, Margaret was reported to have confronted him. According to the source, Otoo admitted to the offence and explained that he did so to eliminate both the fianc�e and the friend whom he suspected of having a secret affair.
Margaret later reported Otoo to the Tema New-Town police, after which he was arrested.
The detective handling the case, Inspector Peasare Emmanuel, confirmed the story and added that Otoo, during interrogation, admitted to pouring the insecticide into the rice because he suspected the wife was having an affair with his friend and wanted to eliminate them.
Otoo was sent to court but the case was not heard, compelling the detective to bring the suspect back to the station on remanded.
Otoo will however be in court on Monday.
Detective Emmanuel said the poisoned rice and stew were yet to be sent to the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) for testing.
