PNC To Open Nominations For Upper East Executives

The People�s National Convention (PNC) in the Upper East Region would be opening nominations across the region for its Regional and Constituency Executive positions from October five to October 15. A statement signed by the Regional Secretary of the Party, Mr Henry Factchu, on Tuesday, stated that it was part of the Party�s preparation towards 2012 elections. According to him, the decision was taken at the Regional Executives Committee (REC) meeting held at the Party�s regional office on September 24. It said: �The Regional Executive Committee (REC) also agreed that nominations be opened for party members who want to become Parliamentary Candidates so that the primaries can be simultaneously conducted with constituency conferences in order to elect candidates to represent the party in the various constituencies to start serious organization toward 2012 election.� On the filing fee, the REC said contestants for the position of Regional Chairman should pay GHC100 while those for the rest - Regional Secretary, Regional Organizer, Regional Treasurer, Regional Youth Organizer, and Regional Education Secretary should pay GHC40 each. However, contestants for deputy positions must pay GHC30 . Additionally, it said, every contestant must pick a nomination form at the cost of GHC10 should pay up his or her dues of GHC2.00 for at least two years. At the constituency level, all positions are free with the exception of the form, which is GHC5.00 Ghana Cedis and their dues of GHC1.00 for at least two years. He said women contesting any of the positions would pay nothing for filing but pay for the nomination forms and their dues. �The decision of REC is in line with the call to encourage and attract women who are the majority to get into politics, which is every business�, he added.
