Flood Takes Over Accra...Kills 5

The city of Accra and some other parts of the country was hit by a devastating flood in the early hours of Wednesday. The floods which followed a heavy downpour around midnight on Tuesday has marooned residents in some flat lying areas in Accra. Worst hit areas according to reports monitored by peacefmonline include Anyaa, Kasoa, Taifa, Dome, Nii boi-Town, Dansoman etc. Five people in the Greater Accra region are reported to have died in the floods; one person lost his life at Odawna while four others died at Adenta in Accra. Property worth thousands of Ghana cedis have also been destroyed. Major roads in the capital including Graphic road and Nkrumah circle have been submerged by the rains preventing workers from getting to their offices. Reports say the offices of some corporate institutions have been shut down including Vodafone. Transport services by rail have also been suspended. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has asked students not to report to school and has also directed the suspension of teaching for today. More soon.
